Download and Installation Instructions for MathEcon

MathEcon Resources includes a range of PowerPoint slides, Excel spreadsheets, interactive quizzes and tutorials in Adobe Acrobat to be used in conjuction with the WinEcon course Mathematics for Economics and Business.

Follow the steps below to download and install MathEcon Resources.

Step 1 - Downloading the software

Save the MathEcon Resources software (3.28MB) from the Web address below to a temporary location on your hard drive. If the browser asks whether to Save or to Open or Run the file, choose Save and pick a folder to save the file into. If asked, save as Application.

Step 2 - Installing the software

If you are installing MathEcon to a securely configured Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista machine then you will now need to log in as Administrator before attempting to install MathEcon.

Once the download is complete, click Open or use "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer" to locate the mathecon71.exe file that you downloaded in step 1. Note that on many Windows systems, the ".exe" part of the file name will not be shown - so the file will appear to be called just "mathecon71" and not "mathecon71.exe".

Double-click on the mathecon71.exe file to start the MathEcon installation program. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

You will need to enter a Password to start the installation process. A Password would have been emailed to you when you ordered MathEcon Institutional. Having entered the Password correctly (N.B. the password is case sensitive) the installation process will continue. Click "Next" unless you wish to change the default settings (N.B. Make sure the settings are the same as used to install WinEcon 7.1). Click "Finish"

You can now start MathEcon Resources by double clicking on the MathEcon Resources icon or by using the Windows start menu (Start | Programs | WinEcon 7.1 | MathEcon Resources).

Step 3 - Entering your licence code

When you purchased a MathEcon Institutional site licence you would have been emailed a licence code and download instructions for the WinEcon software. If you have not yet licensed your WinEcon software it will start up in 7 day sampler mode.

Your licence code should appear in the email as a single line. Although your email program may have inserted a line break you will need to enter it into WinEcon as a single line.

N.B. This licence code will remain valid for the duration of your licence. If you try to enter it after the expiry date of your licence it will come up as 'invalid'. You would then need to contact

Enter the licence code into WinEcon as follows:

1. Copy the licence code from your email (as a single line).

2. Start up WinEcon by double clicking on the WinEcon icon or by using the Windows start menu (Start | Programs | WinEcon 7.1 | WinEcon) N.B.You can also start WinEcon from the Contents page of MathEcon Resources by clicking on any WinEcon topic.

3. On the Courses tabs page of WinEcon (accessible from the WinEcon menu option button if on a topic page) click on the Licence button.

4. Click the Paste button.

5. Click Update to set your licence code.

The software should now show your current WinEcon licence details, which will include the course Mathematics for Economics and Business . Click on the Close button.

Uninstalling MathEcon Resources

If you were logged in as Administrator when you installed MathEcon Resources then you will probably need to be logged in as Administrator in order to be allowed to remove MathEcon Resources.

MathEcon Resources can be removed from your PC using the "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" link in Windows Control Panel.

- Click Start
- Pick Control Panel from the menu
- Open "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features"
- Choose "MathEcon Resources"
- Click Uninstall or Change/Remove and follow the on-screen instructions
